If you’re a fan of fiery flavours, comforting broths, and build-your-own bowls, you’re in for a treat. Mala Town has officially opened its doors at the Metro Shopping Centre, bringing a fresh take on Sichuan-style hot pot to Unley Road.
Located in the heart of Hyde Park, this vibrant new eatery is already turning heads—and for good reason. Specialising in malatang, stir fry, and dry pot, Mala Town offers a self-serve dining experience where you create your perfect bowl from a generous spread of meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles.
Once you’ve built your bowl, choose from three soup bases—including a fan-favourite laksa—and select your spice level, ranging from mild to seriously spicy (think “extra, extra, extra spicy”). Whether you’re going all-in on the heat or keeping things mellow, every bite is bold, fresh, and packed with flavour.

Malatang vs. Dry Pot: What’s the Difference?
- Malatang (麻辣烫) is a soup-based hot pot experience. Your chosen ingredients are cooked in a richly spiced broth—red chilli, laksa, or a mild base—delivering warming, aromatic comfort in every spoonful.
- Dry Pot (干锅) skips the soup and turns up the heat. Your bowl is wok-fried with fragrant spices, garlic, and chilli oil, resulting in an intensely flavoured, slightly crispy dish that’s savoury, spicy, and seriously addictive.
Whether you’re slurping broth or diving into a dry pot, every meal at Mala Town is designed to be personal, punchy, and packed with character.
